In another tutorial, I created a 'demo-project' JavaSW project in EclipseSW using Eclipse Web Tools Platform 2.0. In that version of Eclipse, the bin folder was automatically ignored when I checked the project into or out of CVSW.

I tried checking 'demo-project' out into an older version of Eclipse, the Eclipse Web Tools Platform 1.5.2. In this older version of Eclipse, the Navigator view indicates that it's not sure how to treat the bin folder in terms of version control. This uncertain status is indicated by the question mark on the lower corner of the bin folder.

This offers us a good opportunity to explore '.cvsignore'. If you mark a folder or file as '.cvsignore', it tells Eclipse to ignore the indicated folder of file when it interacts with CVS.

'demo-project' in Navigator View

I right-clicked the bin folder and went to Team → Add to .cvsignore and selected it.

Add to .cvsignore

I went with the default, which was to add 'bin' to .cvsignore. I clicked OK.

Add bin to .cvsignore
